A significant event of the past year was the completion of flight tests of the Skif-D experimental communications system with the RESHETNEV-built spacecraft of the same name.
Russian equipment was flight-qualified on board the demonstrator satellite, and spacecraft control and Internet access technologies were tested. The maximum data transmission speed via Skif-D achieved during the communication sessions was 6.5 megabits per second.
The spacecraft was launched into orbit on 22 October 2022. Its launch solved the problem of protecting the orbital frequency resource of the SKIF satellite communications system. According to the rules of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), radio frequency applications must be re-confirmed. Work on the device will therefore continue. In October 2024, SKIF-D signals will be received in Reshetnyovka. The data will then be transmitted to the ITU.
“Skif-D is the first satellite of the federal project “Sphere” aimed at the integrated development of space information technologies.
